TIPS
All septic tanks need to be pumped on a regular basis. Neglecting your septic tank can cost you thousands of dollars, not to mention an avoidable headache. Your septic tank should be cleaned on average at least every 3-5 years depending on tank, family size, age, and usage. It is important to know where your system is, and is recommended that you put risers on your septic tank so it can be easily accessed if problems arise, also to save you money when service is needed. Looking for and digging up lids to a tank can become costly. For a nominal fee risers can be installed quickly, and efficiently.
Along with proper maintenance there are certain items that should not be flushed down your toilet. Any kind of wipes (even if they say flushable), paper towels, cigarette butts, food, baby diapers, toys, all feminine hygiene products, hair, or garbage. All these things can cause damage to your pipes, and septic tank. These items do not break down causing back-ups and heavy solids which can cost you more money to pump out. If any of these items make it out to your drain field you are again looking at thousands of dollars in damage. Again it pays to maintain your system just like you would any other household item.
